Large-Area Plasmonic-Crystal−Hot-Electron-Based Photodetectors

چکیده
In view of their exciting optoelectronic light− matter interaction properties, plasmonic−hot-electron devices have attracted significant attention during the last few years as a novel route for photodetection and light-energy harvesting. Herein we report the use of quasi-3D large-area plasmonic crystals (PC) for hot-electron photodetection, with a tunable response across the visible and near-infrared. The strong interplay between the different PC modes gives access to intense electric fields and hot-carrier generation confined to the metal− semiconductor interface, maximizing injection efficiencies with responsivities up to 70 mA/W. Our approach, compatible with large-scale manufacturing, paves the way for the practical implementation of plasmonic−hot-electron optoelectronic devices.

متن کاملHarvesting the loss: surface plasmon-based hot electron photodetection
Although the nonradiative decay of surface plasmons was once thought to be only a parasitic process within the plasmonic and metamaterial communities, hot carriers generated from nonradiative plasmon decay offer new opportunities for harnessing absorption loss. Hot carriers can be harnessed for applications ranging from chemical catalysis, photothermal heating, photovoltaics, and photodetection...

We demonstrate nanopillar-(NP) based plasmon-enhanced photodetectors (NP-PEPDs) operating in the near-infrared spectral regime. A novel fabrication technique produces subwavelength elongated nanoholes in a metal surface self-aligned to patterned NP arrays that acts as a 2D plasmonic crystal. Surface plasmon Polariton Bloch waves (SPP-BWs) are excited by the metal nanohole array resulting in ele...

Graphene exhibits electrical and optical properties promising for future applications in ultra-fast photonics[1]. High carrier mobility and Fermi velocity[2, 3] combined with its constant absorption over the visible wavelength range to the near-infrared[4] potentially allow its application for photodetection over a broad wavelength spectrum, operating at high frequencies. However, absorption be...
